HGW'S HOME AND HEARTH

Let me introduce myself:

I am one of those rare birds called a "Florida Native" Since I am native to this state, some accurate assumptions may be made. First, that I am a football nut. There are currently 4 really good teams in Florida. Three pro teams: The Miami Dolphins, whose record-holding quarterback is Dan Marino; The Tampa Bay Buccaneers; The Jacksonville Jaguars, quarterbacked by our beloved Mark Brunell. The Other Great Team? Why of course, The University of Florida Gators, coached by Steve Spurrier. I came to a love of football a little later than most in this state, I was in my mid 30's when I began to follow football. I seemed to have entered on the cusp of the Dolphins greatest seasons. I was a long way from home and quite homesick at the time. It really made me feel good to have a winning team to root for. There are other sports to be found here from swimming, to scuba diving in the nation's only underwater National Park off the keys. We also have excellent climate for golf and have recently built a World Golf Village near my home. You can also get in on any number of water sports including rafting down the Ichitucknee River and several water theme parks. I have also enjoyed bicycling, fishing and horseback riding (both four-footed and the Iron Horses). We have the Nascar racing and part of the Winston Cup races here, almost year-round. In short, there is something here for almost anybody from the athlete to the couch potato. The other main assumption that may be made about me is that I love the sunshine and salt tang in the air. When gone from my home state for very long, I tend to watch some serious tv that contains oceans and sunshine. I guess that explains my love for Hawaii 50. But when you're stuck in the northern tier of the midwest, there are no oceans to drive to and look at. Even if it were warm enough to do so. I have a surprising range of interests, including home and heart and hearth. Hence, the name of my page. So, please come in and enjoy yourself.

To the world through books.
I love to read extensively. I feel that books open doors for me to the rest of the world. I have not had the luxury of travelling outside the United States, but have learned a lot about cultures of other nations sinply by reading. I am one of those weird people who enjoy reading encyclopedia and dictionaries. I also enjoy reading and trying to solve logic problems. Not that I do so well, but I try. I also do crossword puzzles and enjoy mysteries. The more convoluted the mystery, the better I like it. I particularly like to read true crime books like those by Ann Rule. So, in short, I feel I have greatly expanded my horizons by reading. I hope you will too.
